The Day Before Our Flight…

The day before our flight, snowstorm, Newfoundland, Canada, Belize trip

The day before our flight was Monday February 14th 2022,  Valentines day.

We woke up to a snowstorm. All winter it has been mild with rain and high winds. The day before we were to travel there is a snow storm.

We get in the car and travel across the city to get our PCR COVID Tests. Belize requires you to have a negative test upon entering the country. We have gone through a private company to get our results as it is for travel.  When we arrive we are early so we wait in the car until they text us to go in.

When we go inside we fill out the paperwork needed. Raymond opted to go first. Seeing Raymond get his test first made me nervous, maybe I should have gone first. Within a couple of minutes we had our tests completed. This was my first COVID test and it wasn’t as bad as people had it made out to be. Some mild pressure that made me feel like I was going to sneeze.

Twenty minutes and we are all done and on our way home. My first COVID test and I had to pay for it. I will add it wasn’t as bad as some people had made it out to be. I am getting excited now we are actually going to go. Well hopefully as we have to wait til later that day to get our results back.

cat cuddles,

We get back home and the snow is getting worse.   We look at the weather reports constantly as the information we are getting is that the worst part of the storm would be when we needed to get to the airport which was around 3:00 am. Our flight leaves at 5:00am. Raymond makes a decision and contacts Holiday Inn express by the airport to see if we can get a room.

At 1:00pm Ray tells me to grab my backpack. We are leaving ahead of the weather. With a last look to make sure I have everything and some cat spoiling we started the drive to the Hotel. The weather has improved. Later in the evening and overnight will be the strong part of the storm. The hotel has an extended stay pass for parking. Once there we park the car and leave it.  They have a shuttle that will take you to the airport when needed which was a wonderful experience.

On our way to the Hotel we have received the emails back from Avalon Labratories. We are both Negative…woohoo one more hurdle is over and we are getting closer to being in Belize.

Holiday Inn Express was a lovely hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a very nice room, very clean and it was very quiet there. While settling in an email comes through showing the flight has been cancelled.  We are stressed. We tried to call WestJet to see what was happening and could not even get a person on the phone. So we waited and about an hour later we got an update. No longer stressed we are booked on a flight to Halifax with a 7 hour stopover, Board another plane and then off to Toronto.

Happy that we are still flying out in the morning we start looking for food ideas. I call The Rock Steak House and the lady there does me a solid and gets us a table on Valentines day.  We walk over to the Restaurant as it is right next door. The snow has started to pick up again and it is building up quickly. I laugh to myself, I am wearing running shoes and I may need a sled to get back to our Hotel.

The food and service at the restaurant are beyond our expectations. My steak was perfectly cooked. And I will forever dream of the Brussel Sprouts there. I had the mojitos flowing and our server was a delight. With Wine for our meal and more drinks I had a glow and finally I started to feel a little relaxed. We did not feel rushed and they actually had a flourless chocolate cake so you know I had to order it.  I’m not one to order desserts at restaurants as they normally don’t have much gluten free. It was delicious.

We bundle up and trek back to our hotel. I want to say we stayed up and had drinks etc. We did not, we were tired so we slept.  It felt like I had just closed my eyes and my alarm was going off for us to get up. What would today bring us?
