Here is The process of selecting land in Cayo Belize. We had been home 24 hours and we were already feeling out of place. The first day we started talking about what we loved about Belize and some of the things we had questions about. We both had agreed to keep an open mind and hear the other out. We talked about the other places on the list of potential retirement destinations but we both had fallen in love with Belize.
I knew if we were to choose this area for a retirement destination I wanted to be in Cayo. I left a piece of my heart in Cayo. I’m not sure how it drew me in so quickly. It felt like home. There was just one problem. We were not retiring soon. Why would we buy now? Another thing to factor in was that none of the homes we viewed had felt like “The House” to us. Which meant we would have to go back and see if there was something else.
Raymond started looking at more real estate wondering if there was something we missed while there. Nothing stood out to us house wise. He started to look into more communities to see what was available. There were several places in the running One World Village, Carmalita Village, Olde Mill and Xunan Village. We started researching each one wondering if either of these places would be somewhere we wanted to retire. Would we purchase now or later?
Over the next couple of days Belize consumed our lives. We now knew we wanted to be close to San Ignacio. We also knew we wanted to be in a gated community. There had to be land for planting fruits and veggies. hydro and water needed to be accessible. After an abundance of research Raymond realized we both liked the area of One World Village as most of the other places either had a lot of restrictions or you had to go with their house models. I wasn’t a fan of having to go by a specific design for our house as we had an idea of what we wanted and those houses were not it.
The biggest thing now was were we committed to this 100%? Are we going to be buying something in Belize? I know I really wanted this. We both were in this and wanted to move so badly. We want to have a home there even if it is just for part of the year at first.
After talking some more Raymond looked into the developer site for One World Village to see what the price of land would be. Both of us agreeing that we liked that area. To our surprise the price of land was not too expensive. This Village didn’t have so many restrictions regarding the House going on your land. After a long discussion regarding buying now vs later Raymond made the first contact with the Developer.
