Orchid Bay Resort

Last Year we drove through Orchid Bay Resort to see the area. This year we decided to take Dad and Amelia and stay at the resort for two days. The drive from the West to the North was not an extremely long drive however we split the time by going to the Community Baboon Sanctuary. I will talk about that in another blog. It would have been a more leisurely drive except the roads towards the end were really hard to drive on. Major potholes and damaged roads made the movement seem longer as you had to slow down to almost a crawl at times. If you fell into a pothole, I’m pretty sure you may not come out of it.

We drove through Little Belize and saw some Mennonite homes and cattle farms. There were corn fields and all kinds of Sugar cane fields. The roads here were tough to travel on as well. But the scenery was beautiful so much farmland and greenery. with the beautiful blue sky, I was okay with the long drive.

When we arrived Raymond had to go check in at the Restaurant there. So We took a quick walk out to the beach area. There were many people at the pool and it was a little chaotic but we arrived on a Sunday. Which is considered a family day. There were people out paddle boarding and swimming. More people were gathered around the pool. Picnic tables were full of people having lunch. With the sun out and people being everywhere, it felt more like a vacation now.

Raymond finds us and we head back to the car to follow one of the employees to the casita we have rented for the next couple of days. We are lodging right next to the beach yet it is so quiet here. We take a walk around the casita where we will be staying and checked out what was there. Making note that the beds up above the kitchen were not a good option for us to sleep in. We made the decision to sleep on the futon in the living area. Giving the Very spacious bedroom to my Dad and Amelia.

The front deck is screened-in, which is a great place to sit and enjoy the evening. There is 1 lounger which was disappointing. Personally, I feel there should have been at least 2. There was a small table and a couple of chairs out there as well. You walk into the building and to the left is the living area and kitchen. To the right is the hallway to the bathroom and laundry area. This is also where you will find the main bedroom. Everything was spacious and clean.

Dumping our bags we decide to head back up to the restaurant in search of food. Also hoping to secure a fishing tour of some sort for the next day. The food at the restaurant there is amazing. Very tasty and not overcooked. I had grilled chicken. Raymond had a burger and Dad and Amelia ordered fries and wings. We stay for a while chatting and enjoying the view. We secure a river fishing tour for the following morning. I had planned on waking up early anyways as I wanted to watch the sun come up from the wharf.

Orchid Bay is a quiet little resort that suits me just fine. Waking up at 5 am to walk out to the wharf and watch the sun come up. with no one around made it Feel like you have the whole resort to yourself as no one is up yet. The casitas are spaced out enough that you feel like you have your own little private oasis. Here I felt so relaxed. The people here were so friendly. It was a short couple of days visiting but I really did enjoy being here. Oh and keep an eye out for animals in the nighttime. We were relaxing outside one night when a fox passed by our door. I really wish I had been able to get a picture but he was fast.

If you are looking for a peaceful vacation I would check out Orchid Bay.
