The final place we stayed at was Mayan Mountain Lodge. We arrived a little earlier than expected but were greeted by some really friendly people. Raymond went to the office and picked up the keys. We stayed in a house on the property called Humming Bird House. We had to walk through our own little entrance way and there were some chairs, a table, and a Hammock set up in the front of the entranceway. a couple of steps up to the door and you enter into a decent-sized kitchen and dining area.
Once in the house, we took a quick look around making note of anything we needed to get at the grocery store. The house had 3 bedrooms, an office area, a small bathroom, and lots of storage to put away my belongings which I loved because up until this point, I was living out of my suitcase. Things to note there was no TV (something I actually liked). Like all other Airbnb’s they had the essentials drinking water, towels, cooking supplies, etc. I was happy to settle in for the next 2 weeks here.
Mayan Mountain had a charm to it that I really enjoyed. Lodging was like you were in a cottage for your stay. The grounds were beautiful. The different plant life had been labeled to tell you what they were. There were soursop trees and a bunch of different fruit plants. They had a garden there where they were growing vegetables. There is a restaurant on-site, but we did not get a chance to eat there as we had bought groceries to cook, and by the time we got back from our outings we had eaten while out.
Across from the restaurant they had an area set up with a fire pit and seating. We spent several nights here. Especially after my dad bought a guitar in Belmopan. We met all kinds of different people around the campfire. Had some wonderful conversations with Levi as well. We got to talk to him about gardening and what fruits and vegetables thrive in the area. Helping us in the long run when we move here. Did I mention the lodge was maybe a 10-minute walk from our land?
I spent quite a bit of time in the morning up by the pool relaxing and just enjoying the day. The hammock was my favorite place to be. Several mornings while waiting for Raymond to finish work, I took a quick walk around the property because I did not want to waste a minute of the beautiful weather. I even hiked through the jungle and got some amazing photos. Wishing I had taken my camera gear with me however that would have been a lot to travel with. While on my hike at first, I was a little nervous to be on my own but the groundskeepers told me it wasn’t difficult and I soon found out it was maybe one of the most breathtaking areas I have seen. I slowed down and started to take it all in. Still regretting not going more often in my downtime.
There is a spa on the property as well. You can schedule a massage at the front office. While everyone scheduled appointments I chose again to relax by the pool in the hammock and just listen to the sound of nature. Here is where I felt at home. I even started teaching myself how to swim. At a young age, I almost drowned in a river so I have been pretty afraid of water ever since. Now I want a pool at our house. Having visions of starting my day off with a walk through One World Village, then a dip in the pool.
Would I go back and stay at Mayan Mountain Lodge? Clearly, the answer is yes. Without a doubt a place to get reacquainted with nature and still be close enough that you could walk into town.
