Here is a look into the Belize House Specs so far.
When we decided on the lot we started looking at blue prints, websites, youtube videos, and social media accounts for businesses that build in and around Belize. We looked at so many house walk throughs and garden videos. It began to all jumble together and was a little overwhelming. So we started a list of things we wanted in the home we are going to build. We both knew we did not want a large home. Somewhere between 800 to 1000 square foot. After all it would just be the 2 of us for the most part. We then started to discuss what we deemed essential vs non essential. This was the list we came up with.
- 2 Bedrooms, one Master bedroom, and one office/spare bedroom
- 1 bathroom with shower
- Closet space in both bedrooms
- An area to fit Electric bikes and some extra storage space.
- Pantry or an area to place bulk purchases
- Utility room with door to outside
- Kitchen and living room to be one combined room preferably on the back of the house
- A small covered deck
- Somewhere to have water storage
- A reverse osmosis water system
- Folding doors on the back of the house
- Room for a pool outside
- possible outdoor kitchen area
- possible small Shed
While some of the rooms can be combined into the one these were the ideas we came up with. We also liked the idea if going concrete to build a deck on the roof. Also thinking we would like the U shaped kind of house where the bedrooms could open to the outside deck area. We know that once we get back to Belize in January 2023 our ideas may have changed a little but it was a good start. The other thing is our dream may not be what makes sense for the area. We need to go to the lot and check it out. We need to speak with Architects, contractors, builders, locals, furniture builders. These are just to name a few of the meetings we will need set up once we get there.
