Today we take a drive to Sarteneja Belize. As the sun comes out the Ocean looks majestic. Beautiful green/blue in colour. You hear the waves roaring over the silence of the morning. There are people out already walking, running, riding their bikes. It was 6 am and the town was already coming alive. Most people are perhaps heading to work or school. The day is about to begin and the fresh air and sun only helps you have the energy to get up and do something. Raymond makes some coffee while I grab a quick shower. Let’s see where the day will take us.
We decided to go out and explore for the day. There are several Ruin sites in the area that we were thinking about seeing. Also we wanted to check out Sarteneja and Consejo for potential home opportunities. We got in the car and drove over to the ruins right in Corozal but once we arrived we decided that after looking into the map for Sarteneja we would head out towards that area first.
We plug in our destination in google maps and Raymond starts the drive to the unknown. I’m excited and a little nervous about going off on our own the first day but sadly the realtor we had spoken with could not take us out looking at properties until the next day.
We start driving down this dirt road or at least I think it was a dirt road. We soon no longer see houses and just wood land. While driving we notice vehicles stopped just up ahead of us. To our surprise we had to take a hand cranked ferry across a river. While sitting and waiting for our turn Raymond notices a lady selling food from the back of her pick up truck. We have no idea if this was going to be a good idea or bad but he goes out and comes back with some corn tortilla wraps for me and some regular wheat ones for him. He has also purchased two drinks one being pineapple and the other being a rice style drink. We sit and eat and laugh and hope that this was not an extremely bad idea.
Once we got on the ferry which kind of looked a little shady but such an awesome experience. I still cannot believe they still have these types of ferries. We got to the other area and started to drive again. There is hardly any traffic and it’s just a jungle. There are few road signs so we have no idea where we are headed. We arrive at a small town after driving for what seems quite a while. We have made it to Copper Bank.
This little town was out in the middle of nowhere. We did not see one person. We did see some goats though. I was so confused as to why there were no people out around. Failing to comprehend we were on Vacation most people were not and would have been in school or at work. It did however set my mood to feeling extremely isolated. The what if’s started flooding through my head. We left CopperBank and headed towards Cerros Mayan ruins. I do have to say the scenery was beautiful everywhere we went.
We stopped into Cerros Sands to check out the area. The small town was beautiful, the homes here were large and inviting. The landscaping was spectacular. It felt like we were on a small resort. But again this was not for me. I want to live somewhere not so remote. Beautiful for a vacation spot though. We drive on and head to the ruins. We are enjoying the beautiful sunny day with all the scenic views.
